The Lancaster Ready-to-Eat Cereal Plant, a TreeHouse Private Brands site, is currently looking for a Packing Operator to join our team. This is an opportunity to join a recognized and growing company within the food manufacturing industry, where you will have a direct impact on our ability to safely deliver quality products at a competitive cost. The preliminary schedule will require working every weekend with two days off during the week. Openings are on 2nd or 3rd shift.
The Packing Operator is responsible for supporting the packing department, which is made up of SSG Operators, DPM Operators, Bagger Operators, Bulk Pack Operators, Caser Operators and Utility Operators. This role will be responsible for running and monitoring equipment for problems and malfunctions, start-ups and shut downs, completing required paperwork, and maintaining proper sanitary conditions in the packing area.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Ensure side seam gluer (SSG) and cartoner are operating properly and maintaining adequate production rates
Load cartons into the SSG Magazine; verify proper line code and UPC code
Check quality of seals and adequate carton appearance
Clear carton jams
Complete all required paperwork, including pack line productivity sheets
Ensure the double packaging machines (DPMs) are in good working order and producing cartons at the acceptable rate
Load cartons onto the DPM while ensuring film size and line code are accurate
Validate that customer orders are complete by ensuring that all of the numbers for one label have been run before moving onto the next label, according to packing schedule
Monitor weight and fill percentages, product character, and product taste
Monitor baggers and scale systems, including weight and percent fills in the baggers and product taste and appearance
Monitor bag specifications, including bag length, width, air and seals
Check metal detectors hourly and complete required paperwork
Complete bag seal tests using Gemco machine and water submersion tank
Ensure all casers and lidders are operating smoothly in either north or south Packing
Load case containers into the machines while validating appropriate line code
Validate proper hot melt application on containers
Monitor the quality of finished cases and complete all associated paperwork
Maintain sanitary conditions in either the north or south packing areas
Empty all garbage and product bins
Transport packing supplies to needed locations
Complete all required paperwork
Experience and Skills Requirements
3-5 years manufacturing related experience required
Excellent problem solving skills
Knowledge of good manufacturing practices
Fluency in English both verbal and written
